    About NHOC

Our History

Founded in 1996 as an unincorporated organization by a group of elder cultural practitioners under the guidance of Papa Henry Auwae, renowned Kahuna La’au Lapa’au- or expert keeper of traditional Hawaiian healing knowledge. Papa Auwae would sojourn to the home of Gerry Lam and mentor the group until he passed away in 2000.

Gerry Lam then moved to amend and restate Act 162 of 1998 (State healers’ law) into law as Act 153 in 2005. Upon which our organization was incorporated as Native Hawaiian Organization Charity.

We maintained the ancient Hawaiian healing arts and medicinal skills while teaching and serving in our communities. NHOC preserves ancient Hawaiian knowledge.

Strategically in 2020, we entered the US SBA section 8(a) NHO program. Allowing a broader outreach to educating and training native Hawaiian communities into sustainability and self-determination.

We are self-supporting and earn and generate our own revenues for charitable purposes and social services without reliance upon taxpayer donations or government grants.

Council of Healers

We are a Kupuna Council organized under State law as certified Native Hawaiian practitioners in ancient medicine.

Rooted in ancestral knowledge and spiritual guidance, we carry forward the sacred responsibility of healing as it has been passed down through generations.

Our practice of Lā’au Lapa’au is grounded in restoring harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. Through every remedy and every interaction, we honor our kuleana (responsibility) to uplift our community and protect the healing traditions of our ancestors.

These natural remedies are thoughtfully prepared to support overall well-being, helping to ease stress and anxiety, improve circulation and mobility, prevent illness brought on by inactivity, and promote mental clarity.
